Katie’s Acre Chardonnay 2020
$55 / Bottle (750ml)
“Don’t you dare touch that tree.” These words from Katie, our Nana, preserved a giant old walnut tree when Gene, our Granddaddy, began planting our estate vineyards in the late 1960s. The tree still stands today, its magnificent canopy shading nearly an acre of land. We often gather under its majestic branches in a space we lovingly call Katie’s Acre, surrounded by the exceptional Chardonnay vineyard that is the sole source of this radiant wine.
The growing season began early after a very dry winter that included only half of our typical rainfall. The summer was sunny and pleasant, our warmest since 2003, and the harvest began a few weeks earlier than usual. The white wines from this vintage feature concentrated flavors and our signature brightness on the palate.
A true classic, this Chardonnay opens with a beautiful fragrance on the nose. The integrated fruit notes of honeydew melon, pear, and apricot are layered with accents of hazelnut and orange blossom. The cool minerality and graceful acidity lift the flavors on the palate leading to a finish that is long, bright, and expressive.
Katie’s Acre Chardonnay pairs wonderfully with delicate flavors like shellfish, sushi, or a poached white fish with lemon butter. For a festive fall pairing, Winery Chef Chris Kennedy suggests serving this wine alongside Pumpkin Ravioli with Sage Brown Butter.
