Chardonnay was our first international success, helping to put not only Trefethen, but Napa Valley on the map. Defined in the vineyard and refined in the cellar, this wine reflects the cool climate of our estate in the Oak Knoll District, showcasing our signature characteristics of brightness and balance.
Record-breaking winter rains filled our reservoirs and recharged the soil. Spring and early summer were warm, leading to very strong growth in the vines. The rest of the summer was more typical with warm days and cool nights, providing perfect conditions for the developing grapes. Our yields for the season were slightly lower than average and the resulting wines are classic—with complex flavors and our signature brightness on the palate.
A beautiful gold color illuminates the glass and aromas of lemon, honeysuckle and pear greet the nose. The fresh palate features citrus flavors, green apple, and a clean finish. The oak influence in this wine is subtle but important, adding a note of vanilla on the nose and a pleasant roundness on the palate.
The clean flavors and bright acidity in this wine allow for wonderful food pairings. Ingredients such as almonds, hazelnuts, tarragon, thyme, and lime zest work particularly well. Restrained use of mustard is also a good match. Serve with vegetables, seafood, or lighter meats.
