The garden and the vineyard form a virtuous circle, with the produce from one elevating the fruit from the other. Our work in one inspires our work in the other, as well. We recently began training our tomatoes on a trellis, to reduce disease pressure by increasing air flow and to simplify harvest. And in the vineyard shop hangs a quote from Katie Trefethen, “Successful gardening is doing what has to be done, when it should be done, the way it should be done . . . whether you feel like doing it or not.” It has proven to be sound advice for farmers, too.
