Our Nana, Catherine Trefethen, was Welsh. Her twin loves of wine and family were the original inspiration for our estate in Napa Valley’s Oak Knoll District. Celebrating our heritage, “Y Ddraig Goch”, the symbol of Wales, adorns this bottle of Dragon’s Tooth, a provocative blend born from the rockiest part of our vineyard.

The Vintage

With a warm spring, the vines got off to an early start. The weather turned cool during bloom which impacted fruit set and resulted in fewer grapes per cluster. The size of the crop was further reduced as the dry soils, from a lack of late rains, led to smaller grapes. The weather was warm throughout the summer leading right into one of our earliest harvests ever. The resulting wines are fantastic as the smaller grapes and fine weather contributed to ideal ripeness with very concentrated flavors.

The Wine

This alluring blend features rich aromas of blackberry and cracked pepper. On the palate, the flavors include more dark berries and a touch of freshly baked pastry. Malbec brings the color and diversity of fruit; Petit Verdot and Cabernet Sauvignon lend the darker fruits and robust structure. While in its youth, this wine will benefit from decanting before serving.

47% Malbec
30% Petit Verdot
23% Cabernet Sauvignon

Grilled steak, roasted lamb or duck breast are our favorite meats to pair with Dragon’s Tooth. The wine also shines with dark fruit reduction sauces.
