We’re proud to share that Trefethen Vineyards is the first winery to use technology to capture CO2 for reuse!
Explore our winemaking facility with Hailey Trefethen, Bryan Keyes, and Oscar to learn more about our journey towards an increasingly sustainable future to promote a healthy and inhabitable vineyard ecosystem.
About Carbon Capture
Earthly Labs® CiCi® carbon capture technology collects natural carbon dioxide (CO2) generated from the grape fermentation process, purifies it, and stores it as a liquid, which can then be used throughout our winery or supplied to other industries. This initial CO2 reduction effort will bolster our existing commitment to reduce our carbon footprint.
“Trefethen is certified Napa Green, Certified California Sustainable, as well as being a member of the Porto Protocol, a global consortium of wineries studying climate change and how we can reduce the wine industry’s impact,” said Hailey. “This is a natural extension of our founding commitment to land stewardship and environmental responsibility. Carbon capture is one more step on a roadmap to minimize the environmental impact of producing wine.”
In one dewar, it’s the same amount of carbon sequestered by 4 tree seedlings grown for 10 years!
One dewar, or 497.5 pounds of liquid co2 that we capture, is equivalent to preventing the emission from either one of these.
