Trefethen Family Vineyards

2014 Chardonnay

In 1979, Trefethen 1976 Chardonnay was named “Best Chardonnay in the World” at the Gault Millau World Wine Olympics in France, beginning our 30-year tradition of excellence with this most popular of white wines. Key to our success is our vineyard’s location in the Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley, where well-drained, loamy soils and a marine-influenced climate yield Chardonnay grapes with rich, balanced flavors.

The Vintage

There are many layers to the excitement and joy that we feel about the 2014 vintage. To begin with, we feel lucky to have been able to harvest our grapes in a year that was marked by severe drought and a significant earthquake here in Napa just as harvest began. As though Mother Nature has a sense of irony, the part that usually keeps us humble, the weather throughout the growing season, was absolutely perfect. So, we didn’t just bring in the grapes. We brought in grapes from each block as they reached perfect ripeness and we have produced wines of truly exceptional quality.

The Wine

A classic Trefethen Chardonnay, the 2014 starts with enticing aromas of Granny Smith apple, clover honey, honeysuckle and nutmeg. Clean and bright flavors of tropical fruits, peach and crisp citrus envelop your taste buds.

Food Affinities

Perfectly balanced fruit and structure make this wine an ideal match with poultry and seafood. Use fresh tarragon to bring out the best flavors in the wine. We love to serve it in salads with pears or Fuji apples and goat cheese. For the summer time, try it with fresh corn and heirloom tomatoes.
