Trefethen Family Vineyards

2008 Chardonnay

In 1979, Trefethen 1976 Chardonnay was named “Best Chardonnay in the World” at the Gault Millau World Wine Olympics in France, beginning our 30-year tradition of excellence with this most popular of white wines. Key to our success is our vineyard’s location in the Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley, where well-drained, loamy soils and a marine-influenced climate yield Chardonnay grapes with rich, balanced flavors.

The Vintage

The growing season in 2008 began with more spring frost events than we have experienced in decades. You could find the crew two out of every three nights during the month of April in the vineyard “frost-protecting”. Rainfall wasn’t as generous as in past years either. However the summer growing season was splendid, followed by a beautiful fall that provided the perfect finish for the vintage.

The Wine

Our 35th vintage of Napa Valley Chardonnay is classic Trefethen: a perfectly poised balance of fresh golden apple and spiced pear fruit – with undertones of lemongrass, ginger and mineral – and toasty, clove-y, creamy notes from partial barrel fermentation and sur lie and French oak aging. Rich, yet elegant, juicy, yet beautifully structured for aging, our 2008 Chardonnay captures the essence of Napa Valley and 35 years of dedicated winemaking at Trefethen. Enjoy!

Food Affinities

Grilled seafood, herb-roasted chicken, creamy scallops and risotto, white-sauced pastas and simply prepared pork dishes all make excellent accompaniments to our Chardonnay, which also pairs well with foods seasoned with thyme and oregano.
