2007 HaLo

Our flagship wine, HaLo is named for our children, Hailey and Loren, who grew up in the middle of our Hillspring Vineyard in the Mayacamas foothills of western Napa Valley, the source of this extraordinary red wine. The vineyard’s rocky, shallow soils, coupled with a climate protected from fog and wind, make Hillspring the perfect spot to grow exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon.

The Vintage

The 2007 growing season began with a dry, warm winter and spring, resulting in early budbreak, bloom and grape set. Low soil moisture curtailed foliage growth, ensuring the grape clusters enjoyed ample sunshine during a mild summer in which temperatures rarely reached 90 degrees. The cooler-than-normal weather fostered slow, even ripening, a relaxed, well-paced harvest and wines with deeply concentrated, expressive flavors.

The Wine

Our Hillspring Vineyard on the Mayacamas foothills of western Napa Valley expresses its terroir so elegantly in HaLo. A spring-fed creek runs though the vineyard with banks lined with blackberry bushes, bay trees and valley oaks. The surrounding vineyards soak up these flavors and that enchanting aroma of a mountain vineyard is echoed in the wine. The nose is defined by black fruit, bay leaves and chocolate. The luscious mouth is highlighted with raspberry and blackberry. Subtle notes of tobacco, smoke and earth dance in the background, deriving from the Hillspring soil itself. Spice and black pepper give way to a lingering finish. This wine will evolve in a cellar for the next 20 to 30 years. Decanting before serving is recommended.

Food Affinities

HaLo should be reserved for the finest cuts of full-flavored beef and game. If serving with cheese, Piave Vecchio is a great match along with a medium ripe Brie or Manchego.

95 POINTS vintage 2007
“As deep as any of its high-priced cousins and far more polished than most, the 2007 HaLo is a striking wine of real complexity and nuance...and, here again, it shows a sophisticated sense of refinement that reaffirms its place as one of the very best in its class.”
