Because Merlot flourishes in relatively cool growing regions with moist soils, it’s extremely well-suited to the ancient alluvial loams, temperate climate, and long growing season of our estate vineyard in the Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley, a sweet spot between Napa’s warmer up-valley regions and its cool southern tip.

The growing season in 2008 began with more spring frost events than we have experienced in decades. You could find the crew two out of every three nights during the month of April in the vineyard “frost-protecting”. Rainfall wasn’t as generous as in past years either. However the summer growing season was splendid, followed by a beautiful fall that provided the perfect finish for the vintage.
The WineThis Merlot begins with rich savory aromas of cherry, bay leaf, cedar, leather and spice. The weighted mid-palate brings lush flavors of ripe raspberry, smokey molasses, finishing with a lingering hint of black pepper. Rich and layered, this is a balanced wine that will continue to develop.
Food AffinitiesDelicious with duck, barbecued chicken, cherry-glazed pork tenderloin, beef and lamb dishes, tomato-based pastas and black olive and mushroom pizza.
