Trefethen Family Vineyards

2016 Sauvignon Blanc

As an estate winery, we are always replanting some portion of our vineyard because, if we waited and did it all at once, we wouldn't have any grapes for three years! As we pondered what new grapes we might want to plant, we realized many of us had been enjoying Sauvignon Blanc from regions around the world. We also realized that our climate would be perfect to allow us to craft a fruity and bright version right here in the Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley

The Vintage

Much of our winter rain came late, with almost 12 inches in March alone. With a very warm spring, the vines were running about three weeks early heading into the summer months. July and August were cooler than average, with foggy mornings, mild sunny afternoons and no severe heat spells. Vineyard temperatures rose again in September and harvest dates were early by about two weeks. The heat in the spring and again in the fall provided welcome bookends to the mild summer. The grapes benefited from increased hang time and showed fantastic character development.

The Wine

Our second release of Sauvignon Blanc features an aroma of white flowers and lemongrass. There are also notes of citrus, including grapefruit and lime, that carry through to the bright palate.

Food Affinities

A perfect wine for light summer fare; serve with ceviche, shrimp, fish tacos, chicken salad or sushi. The wine is sassy enough to stand up to the bold flavors of Greek or Mexican food as long as the lemon juice is used lightly in all recipes.
