Another in a series of cooler vintages, 2011 got off to a late start with a cool and wet spring. It even rained a couple inches in June, a month that is typically dry. The rest of the summer was more seasonable, although not quite as hot as usual. With vine development progressing, but still delayed, we were delighted to have a very warm and dry September. October was a roller coaster with some rains and high humidity early on and then, thankfully, some dry and warm winds from the north provided the finishing touch for the later varieties.
The WineS.I.N. comes from a specific block of Pinot Noir on our estate property selected for its well developed and full flavored grapes. In order to achieve the bright and vibrant color, the skins remain with the juice for up to 12 hours. A little time in oak added a light layer of toast. This bright and lively wine tastes of strawberry, watermelon, cherry and pomegranate that leads to a long and lingering finish. Less than 260 cases produced.
Food AffinitiesThis is a great wine for sipping on the porch or patio. S.I.N. really shines when paired with fresh grilled salmon, lighter style pasta sauces and shellfish. Or, be SINful and serve it for brunch.
