The Vintage

2011 got off to a late start with a cool and wet spring. A surprise rain in our typically dry June was followed by a more seasonable, but cooler summer. We were delighted by a very warm and dry September. October was a roller-coaster with some rains early on and then, thankfully, dry and warm north winds provided the finishing touch for the later varieties. Crop yield was noticeably smaller.

The Wine

The foggy mornings of the Oak Knoll District create a perfect environment for creating a wine with layered aromas of violets, plums and cherries that gracefully move into subtle notes of forest floor and oak. Soft tannins embrace the velvety palate followed by a spicy black peppercorn and cinnamon herb finish.

Food Affinities

Pinot Noir is the ultimate food pairing wine. It shines with leaner meats, sausage and sauces with earthy flavors such as truffles, wild mushrooms, mustards, peppercorns and coriander.
