The Vintage

2011 got off to a late start with a cool and wet spring. A surprise rain in our typically dry June was followed by a more seasonable, but cooler summer. We were delighted by a very warm and dry September. October was a roller-coaster with some rains early on and then, thankfully, dry and warm north winds provided the finishing touch for the later varieties. Crop yield was noticeably smaller.

The Wine

A potpourri of fragrant varietal scents offers a perfect balance of fresh cherry and raspberry accompanied by toasted herbs, tobacco and hints of oak. On the medium-bodied palate, the wine’s lively red fruit flavors are brightened by crisp acidity and bolstered by firm, but supple tannins, culminating in a long finish.

Food Affinities

Pair with steak frites, grilled tri-tip, beef with broccoli stir-fry. Also try with international dishes from Mexico, Greece and the Middle East.
