2010 Chardonnay
In 1979, Trefethen 1976 Chardonnay was named “Best Chardonnay in the World” at the Gault Millau World Wine Olympics in France, beginning our 30-year tradition of excellence with this most popular of white wines. Key to our success is our vineyard’s location in the Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley, where well-drained, loamy soils and a marine-influenced climate yield Chardonnay grapes with rich, balanced flavors.

The vines got off to a slow start as April and May were both cooler and wetter than average. The cool trend continued into the mild summer and a full growing season that was our coolest since 1978. The exception was one notable heat spell in late August, when temperatures soared to over 111° F! Fortunately, September and October brought enough warm days to provide a beautiful finish to the growing season, allowing us to complete harvest a full week earlier than in 2009.
The WineOur 38th vintage of Napa Valley Chardonnay is a classic Trefethen Chardonnay which highlights tropical and floral aromas with a hint of almond. This Chardonnay has a soft mouthfeel balanced with acidity and a stony minerality which makes this a very food-friendly wine. Flavors of apple pie and citrus, especially that of lemon zest, fill the palate of this rich and balanced Chardonnay.
Food AffinitiesDelightful with winter vegetable soups, seafood, Cioppino, chicken with tarragon, pastas with Shitake mushrooms, pasta primavera or salads with apples, walnuts and goat cheese.
