A classic vintage for the Napa Valley, the 2012 growing season was characterized by warm days and cool nights. In our vineyards in the Oak Knoll District, a dry and warm spring provided the vines with a strong start and the summer was generally mild with most days getting up into the 80’s and many nights as low as the 40’s. The early start to the season was tempered by a slightly cooler than average autumn resulting in typical harvest dates for all varieties–and grapes and wines of exceptional quality.
Selected from a special block on our Main Ranch, this beautifully complex wine is rich with aromas of orange blossom, honeysuckle and lemon créme. In the mouth, the classic Trefethen brightness is framed by a very full body resulting from the time spent sur lie.
87% Old Wente Hens and Chicks, 12% Old Wente Musque and 1% Clone 809 (Musque)
Enjoy this elegant Chardonnay with full flavored seafood such as lobster or halibut. It also shines alongside pumpkin ravioli and roasted veal chops.
4+ STARS (v. 2012)
Ronn Wiegand, Restaurant Wine
EXCEPTIONAL (v. 2009)
“An amazingly complete wine that displays the faint tropical and dried citrus notes of a younger wine with the depth of bottle age (3 1/2 years). A trace of oak adds nuanced complexity.”
Dan Berger Vintage Experiences
92 Points (v. 2008)
“Achieving great loveliness in its rich and balanced blend of ripe apples, creme brûlée oakiness and seamlessly laid on enlivening acids… this wine has both depth and manners.”
