2009 was an excellent, even-keeled vintage in Napa Valley. Consistently mild weather throughout the growing and harvest seasons resulted in stress-free vines, long grape hang times, and fruit with finely developed flavors at lower-than-normal sugar levels.
The WineThis handsomely crafted wine has a rich entry on the nose with a lovely balance of oak and fruit. The wine gracefully dances on the palate and exudes flavors of blackberry, chocolate, currant, plum and black pepper. Hints of nutmeg and Danish pastry linger in the background. The full-mouth tannins are soft and without peaks which makes the 2009 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon very approachable upon release.
Food AffinitiesEnjoy with prime rib, stuffed lamb shoulder or beef medallions accompanied with truffle sauce or onion jus.

“There is no shortage of ripeness here, but it stands well behind the virtues of handsomely crafted fruit and a lovely sense of proportion that blends every element of this wine into both harmony and refinement. It is surprisingly and rewardingly sleek for such a full-bodied wine, and the fact that its size shows up in our notes as an afterthought is testament to its balance at every stop.”

5 STARS vintage 2008
“Exceptional: a classic Napa Cabernet in a medium rich, complex, well balanced style. It is supple, crisp, and very long on the finish, and tastes of blackberry, black cherry, mint, cassis, toast, and tobacco. The best red we've ever tasted from Trefethen.”
